For more than two decades, Russ Hudson has returned to Copenhagen to present new and original teachings on the Enneagram, presence, inner development, and the human journey toward greater freedom. In October 2026, he will once again offer a brand new workshop, created especially for the Copenhagen community.
This year’s theme is The Inner Critic and The Inner Rebel.
Most people know something about the Inner Critic. It is the voice inside of us that tells us how we should be, what we should do, how we should behave, and what we must get right in order to feel safe, accepted, or worthy. It can appear as shame, pressure, perfectionism, self-judgment, comparison, duty, moral tension, or the feeling that we are never quite good enough.
But the Inner Critic is only one side of the story.
Russ Hudson will also introduce the Inner Rebel. The Inner Rebel is the part of us that pushes back. It resists, refuses, reacts, escapes, delays, sabotages, or says no, even when what we are resisting might actually be good for us. It can feel like freedom, but often it is simply another form of being controlled. It is not always true freedom. Sometimes it is a reaction to the pressure of the inner critic.
In this workshop, Russ will explore how the Inner Critic and the Inner Rebel are deeply connected. They often create each other. One says, “You must.” The other says, “I will not.” One tries to keep us safe by keeping is trapped in old rules. The other tries to free us by breaking away from those rules. But both can keep us trapped in old psychological patterns.
Russ will guide participants into a deeper understanding of how these two forces operate in our inner life, in our relationships, in our work, in our spiritual practice, and in the way we try to grow. He will show how the Enneagram can help us recognize the different forms the inner critic and inner rebel take in the nine Enneagram types. Each point of the Enneagram reveals a particular way of trying to get life right, protect identity, avoid pain, seek safety, and resist inner pressure.
This workshop is for people who want to understand these patterns in themselves, and also for coaches, consultants, therapists, teachers, leaders, and Enneagram practitioners who work with others. If we do not understand the inner critic and inner rebel, it becomes difficult to support real development. A client may want to change, but the inner critic may turn growth into another demand. Or the inner rebel may resist the very practices that could help. To work wisely with people, we need to understand both movements.
Throughout the workshop, Russ Hudson will combine teaching, reflection, experiential exercises, dialogue, and practical inquiry. As always, the workshop will be alive, responsive, and shaped by the group. Russ has said that this is material he has not explicitly taught before, and that the Copenhagen workshop will be the first time he presents this theme in person as the main focus.
You will be presented to and learn about:
- How the inner critic works as a force of pressure, shame, rules, and self judgment
- How the inner rebel reacts against the inner critic and creates another form of inner limitation
- Why the inner critic and inner rebel often co-create each other
- How these two forces show up through the nine Enneagram types
- Why growth and development are difficult to sustain if we do not understand these inner patterns
- How presence creates space between the inner critic and inner rebel
- How the Law of Three opens a third way beyond obedience and rebellion
- How to recognize when you are being run by the inner critic or inner rebel
- How to work with these forces in coaching, teaching, therapy, leadership, and personal practice
- How to discover more authentic freedom, responsibility, wisdom, and inner clarity
This workshop is for you who have worked with the Enneagram for some time and want a deeper, more mature understanding of inner transformation. It is also for you who are a coach, therapist, consultant, teacher, or leader who wants to help people move beyond self judgment, resistance, avoidance, and old psychological patterns.
